It is a good question. The way we have designed the corporations act
is that it is self selecting. All the groups you mentioned would have
the choice of the public benefit corporations act, The cooperatives act
or the Ontario business Corporations Act. In the responses the OBA
referred to what they call as true membership organizations such as
golf clubs who really are for their members and often have valuable
assets. Ethnic organizations, social clubs and self help groups are
usually pretty open, just like the soccer and swim clubs for kids.
These organizations tend to behave as public benefit organizations and
