The Latest on CRA Guidelines
Small hrBy now you have probably heard that CRA has issued their fundraising guidelines. The good news is they are quite changed as a result of the consultation process both in tone and detail.  We made a difference. The bad news is that many underlying issues with regard to CRA’s approach to charities raising funds to pursue their charitable mission have not been addressed (disbursement quota, definition of what’s charitable etc. ) but let us leave those policy issues for later.  Here is a practical advisory on the guidelines. Free Workshops:  Strategies for Successful Compliance with Income Tax ActSmall hr
Ensuring compliance with the Income Tax Act may seem confusing but we’re here to help you by providing plain-language resources, tools and practical training so you can quickly get the information you need to ensure you are meeting your legal obligations.

In September, ONN is hosting a series of free workshops for small and/or rural charities on how to comply with the Income Tax Act. These workshops are best suited to your Executive Director, Board Chair, Treasurer, or the designated person responsible for completing your CRA public information form (T3010).

All workshops will be held at the Centre for Social Innovation, 215 Spadina Avenue, Toronto and have a limited number of spaces.  For details on the workshops and to register here click here.

ONN hosted a two day provincial forum in May to begin the development of an agenda of cross-sectoral priorities. More than 125 shared their thoughts, engaged in thoughtful discussions, and brainstormed six strategic priorities for the sector. Read More»

ONN and Imagine Canada worked together with a stellar group of  folks from the nonprofit and private sectors to put together a submission to the Accounting Standards Board. Here is our final submission.

What could Ontario (all sectors - gov, npo's and business) do to create the conditions for social innovations to emerge and be adopted to better serve people and the planet? This was one of the conversations we had at our May Forum and a group of folks were interested in continuing it.
