ONN Forum Reflections by Lynn Eakin You would think after so many years in the field that I would not be surprised but it happens every time. I am always amazed at the hope, resilience and determination of the individuals who work in this sector. It reminds me why I am so proud to have had a career in this sector along side with such wonderful people working to make this world a better place.
At the ONN forum people in the sector, from across the sector, came together to discuss how we move forward together. It was not the usual sector conference with experts set up to tell the sector how to do its work. Participants at the ONN forum had to do all the work and they rolled up their sleeves and cheerfully got on with the job.
Given the times one might think everyone would want to talk about the impending cuts to sector funding from governments and donations but that was not the case. Read More»

Changes Proposed to How NPOs Do Their Financial Reporting
ONN and Imagine Canada have established an Accounting Standards Constellation, or working group, to review the “Invitation to Comment” issued jointly by the Accounting Standards Board and the Public Sector Accounting Board. This document has proposed a number of alternatives to the current accounting standard regime used by the NFP sector. The Standards Boards are soliciting input on a number of matters that could have significant impact on the way we do business. This cross-sectoral working group has prepared a response (also available in French) to the critical questions raised in this document and hosted a webcast on June 2nd during which we provided further details on the positions being proposed. Click to view a recording of the webinar.
We urge you to participate either by acknowledging support of our position paper by June 23rd, or by using the content and your own knowledge to develop your own position for submission directly to the Standards Boards by June 30th.
Vocational Renewal For NPO Leaders For the last several years, the Metcalf Foundation has been exploring how best to support nonprofit leaders and their work. They have been asking:
• How do nonprofit leaders renew themselves in their profession, and how do their organizations and causes benefit when they do?
• Are there different ways we can come at renewal that are responsive to the realities in which people work?
Being the Change We Want: A Conversation on Vocational Renewal for Nonprofit Leaders is a report written by Patricia Thompson, a Metcalf Innovation Fellow, in which she observes that we have been neglecting individuals in our rush to bring about change in organizations, systems, structures and sectors.
