The purpose of this constellation is to look at how to create an enabling environment for social finance, such as tax credits and incentives. This group will focus on Ontario, have cross-sectoral relevance, and will research current and desired financing tools.
Social Finance Ontario (SFO) is a constellation of ONN and is being chaired by Allyson Hewitt of MaRS, with the support of Joanna Reynolds of Causeway. The group is composed of a range of different people that come from both the sector side and the more financial side. The group has met 3 times now and is going through the process of solidly identifying where they want to prioritize their efforts. At the last meeting, over 15 people came together to get a sense of what is currently happening around the world, in our country and even who the players are in Ontario in terms of where we want to focus our energy. There is a sense that this group will be, within that broader context, focusing on identifying those key winnable strategies that we could put forward to support the financing of the social enterprise sector.

I have also recently learned that the CRA Charities Dept has anulled the charitable status of Phoenix Community Foundation. They 'anulled' it claiming that the objects granted to Phoenix should never have been granted after being in operation for 30 years. I have also learned that several charities that are undertaking more entrepreneurial ventures have had their charitable status 'under review' here in Canada read more »
